For students aiming to study Medicine in English at Italian public universities, the most important date is now confirmed.

The IMAT will be held on wednesday, 30th september earlier 8th october.

This applies to the admission test for English-taught Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics, and Veterinary Medicine.

This is a notable shift from the last two cycles, when the exam was held on 17 September. Candidates preparing for the 2026/2027 intake should plan their revision timelines around the new October date.

What This Means for IMAT Candidates

The reforms affecting Italian-taught medical programmes — the semestre filtro (filter semester) — do not apply to the English-taught programmes. Access to Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry, and Veterinary Medicine in English continues through the IMAT, with admission based on your exam ranking.

In short: your route to Medicine in English is unchanged. Only the exam date has moved later, to 8 October 2026.

1. Lock the date. Mark wenesday, 30th september 2026 in your calendar and build your study plan backwards from it.
2. Prepare your pre-enrolment documents early. Registration opens on Universitaly during the summer — being ready means you will not lose time when the window opens.
3. Keep your revision structured. With the exam now in late septemeber, you have additional structured weeks to consolidate Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, logical reasoning, and reading comprehension.
